Polar Wrap Quilts
This summer I made a double layered polar fleece quilt for our grandson, Joey’s birthday. I quilted the two layers together with a sports theme quilt design and when the quilting was done I added applied double loops of fleece to the outside edges. It was really a hit. Soon the other grandson was wanting to use the Joey’s quilt. In order to keep peace I went to the store and bought more polar fleece in a soccer theme for one side and solid white for the other side. I quilted this one with soccer balls. Now there is peace in the family.
In early August our 9 year old granddaughter Jenny was diagnosed with rheumatic fever which required a 10 day stay in Chicago Children’s Hospital. I made Jenny’s quilt with cheetah print fleece on one side with marigold solid fleece on the other side. Jenny’s quilt was quilted with monkey faces using Rainbow threads in shades of gold to dark orange. We took the blanket to the hospital and I laid the blanket on Jenny. It was sad to see out sweet little granddaughter with IV’s and monitors all over as well as oxygen. Watching Jenny touch her blanket with her tiny hands was so gratifying. My husband and I knew I had hit a “home run” with the soft quilt.
Since then I have made two more of the Polar Fleece Wraps for Jenny’s sisters. Keri’s quilt was an alpine design in browns, tan and soft orange on one side with solid tan on the other side. I quilted this quilt using a gymnastic design with script. Lori’s quilt is a black and white alpine design on one side with solid red on the other side. It is quilted with an oriental design.
Since that time I have orders for more of the Polar fleece wraps. The next one I am doing will be in black and gold with a football theme and will be used to cuddle up watching the football games. My husband is hinting that he has not gotten his blanket yet! Here I go---back to the fabric store…..
