Newly arrived vintage quilt tops

Posted by macroge1176 on Friday, May 7th, 2010

Recently I have been able to acquire some gorgeous vintage quilt tops from the 1900 through 1930s era. The are in wonderful condition and ready to be created into a special quilt. I find it very rewarding to take an old top and work with it. Sometimes it requires that I do some restoration whic can include resewing or even some replacement of damaged areas. I keep vintage fabric on hand in case of deterioration. It is some important to use fabrics compatible with the age of the quilt top and not put in new pieces.

I love to think that the original maker must have had a vision of how they wanted the quilt to look like. Once the top is in good repair I always feel that I need to "dream on the top" to give me the inspiration needed. I take my time when I am quilting since I have only one shot to get this right. I try to research older quilt designs and try to use designs that are appropriate to the era.
