The Big Daddy Quilt

Posted by macroge1176 on Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Last fall my husband and I went to Tennessee to visit my brother who owns a night club. I took lots of pictures and got the inspiration for making a memory quilt for the club. The walls are painted in dark colors so I began to collect glitsy looking fabrics which would really "pop out" from those dark walls. I took home t-shirts from the club too with several varietes of colors and logos.

Right after Christmas I began getting embroidery designs together that would be appropriate for an adult quilt. That was a bit more difficult to put together because most embroidery collections have either a cutsie child theme or household them. I spent quite a few hours doing all the embroidery pieces. Next, the big step was to make a stand out center block for the quilt. My brother had sent a great picture of him with his staff. I decided to use Kaleidoscope Kreator 3 to do special effects on the photo. After many tries I was able to get the photo into a great position without a division on any of the faces. It was tricky to get the pieces joined together perfectly but the end result was worth every bit of the time! I did special photographic effects on my photographs in the quilt using Photoshop Elements 8.0. Once I had all my photos and embroidery segments completed it was time for assembly.

The quilting process was fun, I used every "bell and whistle" I could get out of my Statler Stitcher to make a true one of a kind quilt for my brother. It is now in his night club, Big Daddy's in Curmp Tennessee. He said that it is where all the visitors love to go to have their picture taken with the quilt as their background.
